A specific object or situation that causes intense and sometimes debilitating fear
Specific phobias are fears associated with a particular object or situation that are out of proportion to the trigger. Triggers can be animals (dogs, spiders, etc.), needles, injections, heights, or vomiting, to name just a few. For example, many people react positively to the photo of my dog, Aries, shown here. However, if you have a phobia of dogs, that picture alone may trigger strong feelings of fear and anxiety. Treatment of phobias focuses on managing the symptoms of anxiety associated with the trigger, using gradual exposures to the problematic trigger or situation. Contact me to see how I can help you.
